BNI Honors Program

Depth, independence, and care.

Honors students develop an original research question within cognition, learning, memory, or human development. The program emphasizes careful methods, clear writing, and the ability to revise an idea in response to evidence.

Projects may involve behavioral research, computational analysis, historical collections, or the development of research instruments. Work involving participants begins only after the appropriate institute review.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have completed foundational study in a relevant discipline and introductory training in research methods. A short research statement, academic record, and recommendation from an instructor form the basis of review.

From proposal to thesis

The first term is devoted to the proposal, literature review, and methods. The second focuses on research, followed by a written thesis and a presentation to the institute community. Students meet regularly with their supervisor throughout both terms.

Research is a shared practice.

A fortnightly colloquium gives students a place to discuss work in progress. Participation in the colloquium and the institute seminar series is part of the honors experience.
